Eastwood Guitars is a company set up by Michael Robinson which reproduces some classic electric guitar designs.

The company was set up because Michael Robinson wanted to re-create some of the vintage electric guitars that have since gone out of production. He wanted to create guitars with vintage sound and feel, but that were meant to be played not just collected, as he thought so many vintage guitars were simply for looking at, not touching.

Eastwood guitars now produce around 20 guitar models, which have been greatly received by players and reviews. They also produce bass guitars which are either reproductions of classic bass guitar designs or adopted from their guitar designs.

Eagle Wing. Cards online ordering

Posted in Uncategorized by admin on the March 31st, 2008

Eagle Wing (otherwise known as Thirteen Down) is a solitaire card game which is played with a deck of 52 playing cards. The game takes its name from the tableau which depicts a bird, particularly an eagle, spreading its wings in flight.

First, 13 cards are dealt face down as one pile. They will act as the “trunk” of the eagle, i.e. the reserve. Then, four cards are dealt each to the left and right of the trunk (eight cards in all). They act as the “wings” of the eagle, i.e. the tableau. After these 21 cards are dealt, a twenty-second card is placed above the “eagle.” This is the base of the first foundation and the three other foundations must start with cards with the same rank.

The cards on the wings are available only to be built on the foundations, which are built up by suit and round-the-corner (aces placed on top of kings). Gaps are immediately filled with cards from the trunk, turning it face up.

When there are no more moves to be made from the wings, the stock is dealt one card at a time to be played onto the foundations. Unplayed cards are placed on the waste pile, the top card of which is available for play. The stock can be dealt three times, i.e. two redeals are allowed by picking up the wastepile and turning it face down.

When the trunk is down to its last card, it is turned face up and immediately available to be built onto the foundations without having to wait for an empty space on the wings. Afterwards, any space on the wings may be filled with a card from the stock or the wastepile.

The game ends when all moves have been made after the stock has been dealt the third time. The game is won when all cards are built up in the foundations.

Kostroma (tradition). custom-made playing

Posted in Uncategorized by admin on the March 31st, 2008

Kostroma is a straw scarecrow of a girl burnt by East Slavs during the carnival season, or Maslenitsa.

There are various interpretations of the custom. Some scholars believe that the scarecrow symbolizes Mokosh. Others regard kostroma burning as a sacrifice to Jarilo. It is assumed that the custom of burning a scarecrow replaced the human sacrifice formerly practised by Slavic pagans.

In modern Russian, the word denotes a children’s game where one of the players fakes their own death. It may also denote a person who died violently and whose corpse may be harmful to the living. In some Russian villages, a kostroma corpse is buried solemnly on Whitsuntide Eve.

The term is probably cognate to the Slavic word for “bonfire”. It is also likely that the Kostroma River and the town of Kostroma were named after the ancient custom.

Bicycle Playing Cards. playing cards used

Posted in Uncategorized by admin on the March 31st, 2008

Bicycle Playing Cards have been manufactured by the The United States Playing Card Company since 1885. “Bicycle” is a trademark of that company.

During World War II they produced cards that when submerged in water could be peeled apart and both halves had a map on the inside. When all the cards were put together it made a large map. These were supplied to POWs so if they escaped they would have a map.

The company provided crates of Ace of Spades cards for U.S. soldiers in the Vietnam War. It was erroneously believed that the Viet Cong believed the card to be a symbol of death and would flee at the sight of the Ace. In actuality the Ace meant nothing to the Viet Cong, however the belief did improve the U.S. soldiers’ morale. Thousands of decks of these Aces were shipped to Vietnam where the Aces were purposely scattered throughout the jungle and villages during raids. Similar cards were produced during Operation Desert Shield in 1991, immediately prior to the invasion of Iraq by US forces. Due to the shortness of the conflict these cards never saw battle.

Bicycle is a standard issue deck of cards consisting of 52 red and black colored cards. Each card may have one of the four suits: spades, clubs (sometimes called "clovers"), diamonds, and hearts. The numbers on the cards range from 2 to 10, then proceed onward to "Jack", then "Queen", "King", and "Ace". The "Ace" has also been known to be the first card in a typical deck. The bicycle trademark is usually printed on the Ace of spades. The deck comes with the hand ranks of poker, an information card, and two jokers.

Bicycle playing cards are sold in a variety of designs. There are a series of Vintage backs, bridge, pinochle, Pastel color cards (which are colors light blue, lime green, and pink) and Lo Vision cards that are designed for the visually impaired. These Lo Vision cards contain large numbers on the face in a light blue color. Other types of cards with varying backs and colors are produced for magic.

Bicycle playing cards are commonly used in magic (illusion) and flourishes, and are generally considered by magicians as the best playing cards for most tricks.

Bicycle playing cards are comparable to Tally-ho Playing Cards or Bee Playing Cards which are commonly used in casinos worldwide.

David W. Anderson. used for gambling games

Posted in Uncategorized by admin on the March 31st, 2008

David W. “Famous Dave” Anderson, most well-known as the founder of the Famous Dave’s restaurant chain, was the former head of the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs with the title Assistant Secretary. Anderson is a Choctaw and Ojibwe Indian, and lives in Edina, Minnesota. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up there as well as on reservations in Wisconsin.

Since he first took over as head of the department in February 2004, Anderson has become involved in controversy because of his previous business partnership with Lyle Berman. Berman is a gambling entrepreneur who had Anderson sign on as an investor when his company, now known as Lakes Entertainment, was started. Some people view this as a conflict of interest, although Berman has stated that Anderson has not been involved with the company for nearly a decade.

Still, the connection between Anderson and gambling has been viewed as a major conflict for Anderson. He stated that he would recuse himself from any decisions relating to Berman. A few months later, he stated that he would let others handle all decisions related to gambling. This drew fire from leaders in the Congress, as oversight of casino gambling on Native American reservations takes up much of the resources of the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Anderson has stated that allows him to focus on other ways to improve the lives of Native Americans living on reservations in the U.S., a view that some sympathize with because many believe that, overall, Indian casino gambling has not helped those populations.

Probabilistic number theory. number.

Posted in Uncategorized by admin on the March 31st, 2008

Probabilistic number theory is a subfield of number theory, which uses explicitly probability to answer questions of number theory. One basic idea underlying it is that different prime numbers are, in some serious sense, like independent random variables. This however is not an idea that has a unique useful formal expression.

The founders of the theory were Paul Erdős, Aurel Wintner and Mark Kac during the 1930s, one of the most intense periods of investigation in analytic number theory. The Erdős-Wintner theorem on additive functions was a foundational result.

Oicho-Kabu. Kabufuda

Posted in Uncategorized by admin on the March 31st, 2008

Oicho-Kabu(おいちょかぶ) is a traditional Japanese gambling game similar to the Western games blackjack and baccarat. It is typically played with special kabufuda cards. A hanafuda deck can also be used, if the last two months are discarded. (Western playing cards can be used, if the face cards are removed from the deck and aces counted as 1.)

The goal of the game is to reach a total closest to 9 without going over. As in baccarat, the last digit of any total over 10 makes your hand: a 15 counts as 5, a 12 as 2, and a 20 as 0.

The word yakuza originates from this game. The worst Oicho-Kabu hand is 8-9-3, or “ya-ku-sa”. This gives a sum total of 20, or 0 points.

Shichi Narabe. regular playing cards

Posted in Uncategorized by admin on the March 31st, 2008

Shichi Narabe (in Japanese : 7並べ) is the name for a fairly simple card game for 3 or more players. It is played with the international 52-card deck. There appear to be several versions of this game, so these rules are rather generic.

Aces are low.

How to play:

Shuffle the deck and deal 13 cards to each player. (There is a version of this game using jokers, but it is uncommon and will not be explained here.) Next the order of play is determined, although there is no specified method for doing so.

Next, the players set up the layout. They remove the sevens from their hands and arrange them into a column on the table, leaving plenty of room on each side of the column. This will eventually grow into a tableau of 13 columns and 4 rows.

On his turn, a player may either place a card from his hand onto the table or take no action. He may choose to take no action a maximum of three times per game.

A card can be played only if there is already a card on the table matching it in suit and adjacent to it in rank. For instance, at the start of play, since all the 7s are on the table, the first card played must be a 6 or 8, of any suit. If one starts off by playing 6♥, the second card may be 5♥, 6♣, 6♦, 6♠, 8♥, 8♣, 8♦, or 8♠. The cards are arranged in rows, each row representing a suit.

The game ends either when one player runs out of cards (in which case, the remaining players receive penalty scoring for cards left in their hands) or when all players run out of cards (in which case, the players are ranked as first, second, third and fourth place, in the order in which they ran out of cards).

This game is also sometimes referred to as Sevens, or Seven Up. Confusingly, another game, Fan Tan, is also sometimes known as Sevens.

A one-way deck is a deck of playing cards where the back of the cards has a pattern which can be oriented to have a “top” and “bottom”. Magicians and card sharps can use the orientations of cards in one-way decks to encode information that allows them to perform card tricks.

A certain number of the faces of playing cards can also be used as “pointer cards” (the Seven of Hearts, for instance, whose odd heart image can point in one direction or another) which, when all aligned, allows an otherwise ordinary deck (one where the backs are all identical) to be used as a partial one-way deck.

Raise the Roof is a construction strategy card game for 2 to 4 players.

The game is played by drawing cards in turn and playing them to build your house. Room cards used to build your house range in value from 100 to 400. You can stop other players from building their house, take parts from their house, and even take cards from their hands. The game ends when a house is completed. All players must then add up the value of their respective houses and subtract the value of the cards in their hands (with the exception of the player who has a completed house). The player with the highest score wins.

Raise the Roof was created by Henard Industries in 1982 and was discontinued after only a few years of print.

Hexagonal number. each number. The

Posted in Uncategorized by admin on the March 30th, 2008

A hexagonal number is a figurate number, the number of points in the union of n hexagons with partly two common sides, as shown in [1]. The hexagonal number for n is given by the formula 2n2n. The first few hexagonal numbers are:

1, 6, 15, 28, 45, 66, 91, 120, 153, 190, 231, 276, 325, 378, 435, 496, 561, 630, 703, 780, 861, 946

Every hexagonal number is a triangular number, but not every triangular number is a hexagonal number. Like a triangular number, the digital root in base 10 of a hexagonal number can only be 1, 3, 6, or 9.

Any integer greater than 1791 can be expressed as a sum of at most four hexagonal numbers, a fact proven by Adrien-Marie Legendre in 1830.

Hexagonal numbers can be rearranged into rectangular numbers n long and 2n−1 tall (or vice versa).

Hexagonal numbers should not be confused with centered hexagonal numbers, which model the standard packaging of Vienna sausages. To avoid ambiguity, hexagonal numbers are sometimes called “cornered hexagonal numbers”.

Ristretto. they make regular

Posted in Uncategorized by admin on the March 28th, 2008

Ristretto is a very short shot of espresso coffee. A normal (double) espresso shot is a 60 ml (2 fl oz), while a (double) ristretto is a 30-45 ml (1–1.5 fl oz). The ristretto is often preferred by espresso coffee lovers for its added body and fullness.

One method of pulling a ristretto shot is to grind the coffee finer than that used for normal espresso, and pull the shot for the same amount of time as a normal shot. The smaller spaces between the particles of finer-ground coffee allow less water to pass through, resulting in a shorter shot. However, this can also lead to a gritty taste, if the coffee is ground fine enough that the insoluble components can pass through the filter-basket.

Another method for pulling a ristretto is to simply stop the extraction early, so less water has time to pass through the ground coffee. This produces a slightly different taste than the fine-grinding, equal-time method, and is often preferred because it does not require the barista to change the settings on the coffee grinder.

A third method, that serves as a compromise between the previous two, is to prepare the shot without adjusting the grind but to make the tamp more firm. The firmer tamp will compact the grinds in the filter basket allowing for a shot time comparable to a regular espresso. This method has the added benefit that adjusting the coffee grinder is not necessary while keeping much of the body and flavor of the fine-grinding, equal-time method.

As the amount of water is increased or decreased relative to a normal shot, the composition of the shot changes, because not all components of coffee dissolve at the same rate. For this reason, an excessively long or short shot will not contain the same ratio of components that a normal shot contains. Therefore, a ristretto is not simply twice as “strong” as a regular shot, nor is a lungo simply twice as weak.
